In her latest historical novel, Gallipoli Street, Nissa Leder transports readers to the front lines of the Gallipoli campaign during World War I. Through the eyes of several compelling characters, Leder vividly recreates the horrors and heroism of this pivotal battle.

The novel opens in 1915, as the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZACs) land on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey. Among them is Private Tom Allen, a young man from the Australian outback who is eager to prove himself in battle. Tom is soon joined by Sergeant Jacka, a decorated veteran who has fought in the Boer War. Jacka is a tough and experienced soldier, but he is also compassionate and caring. He takes Tom under his wing and teaches him the ropes of war.

As the ANZACs fight their way up the peninsula, they face fierce resistance from the Ottoman Turks. The fighting is brutal and bloody, and Tom and Jacka witness firsthand the horrors of war. They see men killed and maimed, and they are forced to make impossible choices. Despite the horrors, Tom and Jacka never lose their humanity. They continue to fight for what they believe in, and they never give up hope.

Gallipoli Street is a gripping and unforgettable historical novel that brings the Gallipoli campaign to life. Leder's writing is vivid and evocative, and her characters are complex and believable. The novel is a powerful reminder of the horrors of war, but it is also a testament to the courage and resilience of the human spirit.
