About the Book

This book examines the experiences of students who have been suspended from school, and provides recommendations for how to reduce the use of suspension and improve school climate. The book is based on a study conducted by the Syracuse University Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution, which surveyed over 1,000 students who had been suspended from school. The study found that students who are suspended are more likely to experience academic difficulties, drop out of school, and engage in criminal behavior. The book also found that suspension is often used disproportionately against students of color and students with disabilities.
