Tian Han was one of the most important figures in the development of modern Chinese theater. His work as a playwright, director, and producer helped to shape the cultural landscape of China during a time of great change and upheaval.

Tian Han was born in 1898 in Changsha, Hunan Province. He began his career as a journalist and political activist, but he soon turned to theater. In 1928, he co-founded the China Drama Society, which became one of the most important theater companies in the country.
