Inspired by an extraordinary real-life story from the First World War, this novel follows the journey of a young woman who defies the odds to become a skilled pilot and serve her country. A must-read for fans of historical fiction and stories of female empowerment.

A Daughter's Promise

In the early days of the Great War, a young woman named Elsie Inglis made a promise to her dying father. She would become a doctor and serve her country.

Elsie was a bright and determined young woman, but she faced many challenges. She was born into a poor family, and she had to overcome the prejudice against women in medicine. But she never gave up on her dream.

In 1914, Elsie graduated from medical school and joined the Scottish Women's Hospitals for Foreign Service. She was sent to Serbia, where she worked in a field hospital near the front lines.

Elsie quickly proved herself to be a skilled surgeon and a compassionate caregiver. She saved countless lives, and she earned the respect of her colleagues and patients.

A Woman of Courage

In 1915, Elsie was awarded the Free Download of St. Sava, one of the highest honors that could be bestowed upon a foreign national in Serbia. She was also promoted to the rank of major, becoming the first woman to hold that rank in the British Army.

Elsie's work in Serbia was cut short when she contracted typhus. She was evacuated to England, where she died in 1917 at the age of 36.

Elsie Inglis was a pioneer for women in medicine. She was a brilliant surgeon, a compassionate caregiver, and a true hero. Her story is an inspiration to us all.

A Legacy of Hope

Elsie Inglis's legacy lives on today. The Elsie Inglis Memorial Hospital in Edinburgh, Scotland, is named in her honor. The hospital provides free healthcare to women and children in need.

Elsie Inglis was a remarkable woman who made a significant contribution to the world. Her story is a reminder that anything is possible if you have the courage to follow your dreams.
