The book's title poem, "Killdeer," is a meditation on the bird's distinctive call, which the poet hears as a "plea for attention." The poem explores the ways in which we humans often ignore or misunderstand the natural world, and it urges us to listen more closely to the voices of the creatures around us.

Other poems in the collection explore such diverse topics as the beauty of the natural world, the challenges of parenting, the nature of grief, and the search for meaning in life. Fincke writes with a rare combination of lyricism and precision, and his poems are full of vivid imagery and thought-provoking insights.

Killdeer is a book that will stay with you long after you finish it. Fincke's poems are a gift to readers, and they offer a unique and unforgettable perspective on the world we live in.

Praise for Killdeer

"Gary Fincke's Killdeer is a book of stunning beauty and power. Fincke is a master of the essay poem, and his poems in this collection are among the best I've ever read. They are deeply personal, yet they also speak to the universal human experience. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves poetry, nature, or simply good writing."
