The Lincoln Highway, designated as US Route 30, was conceived in 1912 as the first transcontinental highway in the United States. Its original route stretched from New York City to San Francisco, spanning over 3,300 miles. In California, the highway entered the state near Truckee and continued west through the Sierra Nevada mountains, the Central Valley, and the Bay Area before reaching its terminus in San Francisco.

During its heyday in the 1920s and 1930s, the Lincoln Highway was a symbol of progress and westward expansion. It opened up new frontiers for travelers and businesses, and countless families embarked on epic road trips along its iconic route. However, with the advent of the interstate highway system in the 1950s, the Lincoln Highway's importance as a major transportation artery diminished.
